Consequences of most of the Kargil widows!

It is distressing to see that despite tall claims made
by the government, many of the Kargil widows are
living under abject poverty and misery one year after
the conflict. While in some cases, the government has
failed to keep up it's promise of providing
compensation to the bereaved families, there are other
instances where it is the relatives of the war widows
who lay their greedy hands on the money and deceive
them. This only shows that the government has to do
something more than providing mere compensation to the
aggrieved families. The real challenge lies in
ensuring that the amount meets it's purpose and
enables the families of the martyred soldiers to lead
a decent life. This is what our brave jawans hoped
for when they left over their families and laid down
their lives in defense of the country and it is the
paramount duty of the government to cater to their
last wish.
